Les Misérables Gets Standing Ovation at First Screening

It was never going to be a film that would go under the radar but it's not often you hear of a film getting a standing ovation. But that is exactly what Tom Hooper's Les Misérables has gotten.

The film, which was screened in New York for a crowd of journalists and critics recently, received a “raucous applause” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Each of the big musical numbers, including I Dreamed A Dream, were also acknowledged with applause by the audience.

The film is, like the play, set in 19th Century France.

This will only add to the hype surrounding the film which, along with its stellar cast, will be a strong contender at the Oscars.

Les Misérables stars Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried.

It is an adaptation of the successful stage musical, which is based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo, and will be in cinemas early next year.
