A young boy who wanted to deliver a letter to heaven so his late father could ‘read’ it has had his wish granted. Get your tissues at the ready because this story is a major tear-jerker.
The Huffington Post reports that MacAidan Gallegos was only five years old when his father died in service in Afghanistan back in 2009. ‘Mac’ (who is now nine) wanted to do something special in memory of his dad on his father’s birthday last month, so he decided to write his dad a letter that would be delivered to him in heaven.
“I wanted to write a letter because I wanted to know more about my dad and to show that I didn’t forget him and to show that I also love him,” said Mac, who lives in Alaska.

Seeing that her son was serious about his idea to send his dad a letter, Mac’s mammy, Amanda Marr, posted her son’s wish on Facebook. She was soon contacted by the non-profit organisation Helping American Veterans Experience Alaska (HAVE), an organisation that helps injured veterans.
The organisation contacted Lt. Col. Brian Baldwin and told him about the little boy’s wish. Lt. Col. Baldwin then decided to fly Mac as high as his F-22 aircraft would allow, so he could ‘deliver’ his letter to his dad.

“It is an honor to fly with Mac’s letter,” said Lt. Col. Baldwin.
“His father gave the greatest sacrifice to our country and I am humbled to be able to do something for him and his family,” he added.
The special flight took place on January 24th – the day that would have been his father’s 31st birthday.
