Lighting Up Down Under – Aussie Family Claim Christmas Lights World Record

An Australian family has reclaimed a world record for most Christmas lights on a residential property after their previous tally was eclipsed in 2011. The Richards family, from Canberra, have had their new tally of 502,165 confirmed by Guinness World Records. David Richards told reporters he, his wife Janean and their three children had started working on the display in October, two years after the family first held the world record in 2011, before losing the title to an American family living in New York. Richards said; "I have always loved Christmas. Having the Christmas lights with the community coming in and sharing it is a time when you get to know people you probably should know better," he added. The family also confirmed plans to open the display to visitors in the coming weeks, to raise money for a children's charities SIDS & Kids ACT. "The charity is very close to our heart.
