The countdown is on: A list of all the Irish bank holidays in 2020

Olivia Hayes

You can’t beat that sweet 3-day weekend.

There are a total of nine bank holidays in Ireland every year – and one has already passed.

Today, New Years Day counts as one, and it will be March until we see another one. But get the dates into your diaries now because if you’re lucky enough, you might be able to double your annual leave days for the year.

Here are all the bank holidays in Ireland in 2020:

  • 17 March – St Patrick’s Day
  • 10 April – Good Friday
  • 13 April – Easter Monday
  • 4 May – May Day
  • 1 June – June Bank Holiday
  • 3 August – August Bank Holiday
  • 26 October – October Bank Holiday
  • 25 December  – Christmas Day
  • 26 December – St Stephen’s Day

So, if you want to get some extra time off, the trick works because Easter falls in the middle of the month (April 13). If you book annual leave from April 14 – 17 (Tues – Friday), it means you will really get 9 days off in a row. Also, if your work closes on Good Friday, that’ll add an extra day off.

It doesn’t stop there though; if you take off the 4 days that follow the June and August Bank Holidays, you’ll have two 9-day chunks. Nine days for the price of four? Yes, please!
