Long-Running Corrie Star Is Leaving The Soap

Long-running soap star Chris Gascoyne is leaving Coronation Street to spend more time with his family.

The actor, who plays Peter Barlow, is planning to take at least two years out during which he wants to spend time with his children and try out other roles.

Chris Gascoyne has starred in Coronation Street for 13 years.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: “Chris has had a great run on Corrie but is knackered from the demands the long hours have put on him and his family.”

They added: “His departure will be a big blow as Peter Barlow is a major character and one of the show’s few alpha males.”

His character Peter Barlow has been in and out of the soap.

Chris’ departure will happen next year however show bosses will be leaving the door open for his return.

The 45-year-old is married to, actress and writer, Caroline Harding. They have three children called Belle, Freddie and Pip.
