Message in a… Balloon? Grieving Widow’s Message Travels Across Countries

The woman released the balloons at her late husband's funeral.

A woman in northern Sweden has found a message attached to a balloon that travelled all the way from the UK to the Scandinavian country.

According to The Local, Lena Jönsson found the balloon on Monday while she was mushroom hunting in forest land.

Lena told the paper that the attached message was written in English, penned by a woman who had lost her husband to cancer at only forty years of age.

Jönsson understood that the balloon was one of several that had been released at the funeral. Each message ended with a contact address for the woman, who is located in Wigan, and a request to write to her.

Lena said that the message did not bear a name or a date, but the man’s wife requested the message to mark her husband’s memory and “help her grieve”.
Speaking to the paper, Lena said:  “I don’t know when this was sent or how long the balloon was sitting in the forest, but the whole thing is fantastic.”
“I’m going to write a letter. It would be so lovely to know more.”
