Models Will Now Require A Doctor’s Note To Work In France

The government hopes that this will lessen the pressure on models to be unrealistically thin.

The fashion industry has been criticised for many years about the unrealistic standards of beauty it upholds, and many people believe it has contributed to the increase in eating disorders seen globally.

Many models have voiced their concerns about their own health and wellbeing, and that of models in general on social media, openly discussing how bookers and designers have told them to lose more weight to fit into tiny sample sizes.

Now France has taken action on the issue adopting a bill requiring models to submit a doctor’s certificate confirming their health before being permitted to work according to The Guardian.

It will now be up to individual doctors to assess the health of models on a case by case basis taking a number of factors into account including age and gender.

Magazines must also flag all photographs that have been digitally enhanced and altered.
