Netflix has inspired a lot of popular baby names this year

Funnily there were no Eleven’s, that we know of.

Whether it’s a conscious decision or not, pop culture has always had an influence on baby names.

But it seems that one of the biggest influencers of baby names at the moment is streaming service Netflix.

Binge-watching shows like Stranger Things and The Walking Dead has helped parents of new born babies to chose the name.

The list of the most popular baby names of 2016 was recently released by Baby Center.

Stranger Things seemed to have the biggest influence on prospective parents with ‘Nancy’ and ‘Dustin’ both increasing by 32%. Mike is 28% more popular as is his mother Joyce’s name, which is also up 28%.

Surprisingly there were no Eleven’s among the list, but that isn’t to say that some superfan hasn’t named their baby after the super natural girl and it just wasn’t included on this list. However names like Ellie and Ella were among the popular names.

The Walking Dead also had a big impact on expectant parents as ‘Tyreese’ is 47% more popular this year. Herschel (37%)  and Carol (18%) also gained popularity.

‘Eleven’ and ‘Barb’ are popular too, but among furry friends. In a list of popular dog names by Rover, Netflix also influenced name choosing.  More than 50 percent of dogs this year are named after a movie, TV or book character or celebrity according to Mashable.

No major spike in Lorelai’s or Rory’s just yet, but we predict that 2017 will see a rise in Gilmore Girl inspired names.
