The difference in quotes for car insurance from company to company has been revealed this week thanks to a new survey published by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
The Motor Insurance Comparison Survey shows that there was a difference of €156 to €1,249 for quotes for fully comprehensive insurance.
Eight insurance providers were compared using nine different driver profiles and savings across each profile were then surveyed.
It was revealed that there was more than €170 in the difference between the highest and lowest quote for a 67-year-old driver in Dublin.
However, the commission went on to urge consumers to shop around for cover as in one case they found a saving of €1,249.
The results also show that penalty points have a big impact on price quotations.
