It’s official – people who wear glasses are more likely to be smarter

And sexier… according to us.

If you’re at all a glasses wearer, you’ll know a couple of things to be true.

The first is that you’ll spend a lot of time struggling to see through frames that are inundated with finger prints.

The second is that people will always ask if they can try on your glasses.

That’s it, that’s all the things… until now, that is, because it’s recently been suggested by a very reputable scientific study that people who wear glasses are likely to be smarter than those that don’t and yeah, we’d be inclined to agree with that statement.

Researchers from the University of Edinburgh discovered that’s actually a connection between certain hereditary traits and cognitive functions.

They were able to discover 148 genetic loci present in the body associated with cognitive ability.

Researchers then considered whether the various attributes of a person, like eyesight and high blood pressure impacted intelligence… and found that those who wore glasses were 30 percent more likely to be intelligent.

So basically, having poor eyesight means you’re probably going to be a lot smarter than those with 20/20 vision.

Stunning.

Professor Ian Deary said that the study proves how far science has come with regards to genetic research.

He said:

“Less than a decade ago we were searching for genes related to intelligence with about 3,000 participants, and we found almost nothing,” he said.

“Now with 100 times that number of participants, and with more than 200 scientists working together, we have discovered almost 150 genetic regions that are related to how clever people are.”
