Older Kindles Will Stop Working Unless They’re Updated By Tomorrow

Yikes.

If you’re the owner of a Kindle Paperwhite (2012) (or any model issued prior to this one), you’re going to want to update it immediately.

According to The VergeAmazon has issued a warning for Kindle users reminding them to update before March 22nd or risk being cut off from the internet.

The Amazon warning is as follows:

‘If you do not update your device by March 22, 2016, you will receive the following message on your device: Your Kindle is unable to connect at this time. Please make sure you are within wireless range and try again.

‘If the problem persists, please restart your Kindle from the Menu in Settings and try again. If you see this message on your device on or after March 22, you will need to manually install the latest software update for your device. Go to Fire & Kindle Software Updates for more details’.

If connected to Wifi, Kindles should update automatically even when ‘asleep’ but if your device isn’t near a WiFi connection, chances are it will miss out on the all-important updates.

To update your device, open the menu tab and select “Sync and Check for Items”.

Even if you miss out by tomorrow, all is not lost as you will be able to update manually by downloading the specific file and transferring it to your PC and then to your Kindle.

However, to make life easier for yourself, we’d recommend opting for the simple ‘update’ option.
