Nick tells us that the money left (€200) was enough to cover the cost of a local tradesman who was good enough to help John out and fix the window on Paddy's Day.
Granted, getting drunk and breaking a window, albeit accidentally, and then leaving the scene is hardly admirable behaviour, but not everyone would hold their hands up and go about trying to make amends either; a gesture that John and Nick were both very appreciative of.
