Her

China is one of those countries that probably isn’t at the top of your travel wish list, but investigate its history and it quickly becomes clear that these modern cities offer some truly amazing sights to explore.

Some visit China to marvel at the scenic views, the high skyscrapers and the fascinating culture. Beijing and Shanghai are vastly different cities, but just as exciting and alluring.

The Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is the symbol of the country and for good reason. This wall is more than 2,300 years old and one of the new seven wonders of the world. It’s considered one of the most beautiful places in China and on a sunny day, it definitely delivers. Try to go when the weather is clear and there is little smog. This’ll ensure a better experience and more beautiful photos.

Tip: DON’T USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT to get to the wall from Beijing city, you will be queuing for hours. Opt for a tour bus instead.

The Forbidden City– Beijing

The Forbidden City is in a heart of Beijing and a MUST SEE when you’re there. It was the palace of the Emperors of China for hundreds of years and it remains Beijing’s leading tourist attraction. The palace boasts 9,999 rooms filled with ancient artefacts. Planning a trip? The Forbidden City is huge so make sure you have comfy shoes for walking around in.

*Tip: BEWARE OF SCAMS. If approached by a young lady who asks you to have a coffee, be careful. These ladies are employed by tea shops and cafes to attract tourists and could end up costing you hundreds.

Wangfujing Night Food Street Market – Beijing

If you’re an adventurous person likes to try crazy and interesting foods, get yourself to Donganmen street, a long beautiful strip of food with fabulous red lights. There are loads of unique dishes to try such as snake, crocodile, starfish, lizards, crickets and more. It’s open from 6pm-9pm every evening so make sure you pop down to experience it.

*Tip: Don’t be afraid to try something new and make sure you bring cash!

Lama Temple Beijing

The most famous Tibetan Buddhist temple outside of Tibet is well worth a visit. The temple has many practising monks and worshippers, as well as beautiful Chinese and Tibertan architechture. There are many monks still living in the temple and for a small donation, you can ask them to bless things for you.

*TIP 1: Closes early each day so make sure you arrive in the morning for your visit.

The Beautiful Bund in Shanghai

This is the beautiful, famous waterfront around the city of Shanghai. It’s a tourist spot in itself and a wonderful excuse to walk around the whole city, day or night. It’s also a perfect spot for photos with gorgeous views of the Huangpu River and the famous Pearl tower.

*Tip: There are amazing rooftop bars around the Bund and great for having a cocktail, looking out on the night life and river.

Shanghai Tower: The World’s highest observation deck
The highest observation deck in the world, Shanghai Tower only opened two years ago. You ascend 128 floors from basement to top (just like in Charlie and the Chocolate factory!) where you are greeted with an unreal 360 degree view of the city. You could stay up there for hours.

The culture

The culture in China is like no other. For anyone travelling from the western world, it’s an absolute culture shock. But with it’s amazing history, architecture, traditions, technology every day etiquette, food, scenery and the people, it’s worth every penny of that plane ticket.
