Ahead of the much-anticipated FAI Umbro Women’s Cup Final in the Aviva this Sunday, we’re profiling players from the teams going head to head, Raheny United and Castlebar Celtic.Today we’re looking at Katie McCabe of Raheny United_____________________________
Katie McCabe is one of the youngest players lining out for Raheny this weekend, at 18 years of age.
She is currently in her final year in secondary school, and has been wearing a Raheny Utd for five years. The 2013 season marks her third year at senior level.
Katie has played for Ireland at all junior levels and is a current member of the U19 squad, who have qualified for the Elite knock out stages of the European Cup.
She is a natural left footer with immense pace and skill, so certainly one to watch for the weekend, as she’s been described as a Ryan Giggs (at his best!) type player who can create as well as score goals.
She is a regular starter in the current team and has been since the commencement of the National League. The young star has won the most possible honours at senior and junior club level and has been nominated for young player of the year in the National League for the last two seasons. She has also played in the Champions League. Watch out Castlebar Celtic… this lady has got her game face on.
Raheny United take on Castlebar Celtic in the FAI Umbro Womens Cup Final, Sunday 3rd Nov, Kick Off 12.20. Tickets can be purchased here.
