Here’s how you can get active and raise funds for a good cause next month…

The summer might be well and truly over, but that doesn’t mean we can’t continue to make the most of the outdoors before the winter evenings settle in and the weather takes a turn for the worse.

This is the perfect time of year to get moving and set yourself an active challenge, and if you are looking to get fit this autumn and raise money for a good cause while you’re at it, we’ve got just the thing…

The Great Pink Run is back and it’s the ultimate way to get active this autumn while raising money for a worthy cause.

Taking place over the course of a weekend on October 16 and October 17, this year’s Great Pink Run, sponsored by Glanbia and the Joe Duffy Group, will unite people all over the world virtually, challenging participants to walk, jog or run a distance of their choosing in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland.

This year, the aim of the event is to ‘turn the globe pink’, by challenging participants to complete a joint distance of 40,700 km (that’s the circumference of the globe, FYI) over the course of the weekend. To hit this incredible milestone, every little helps, so challenging yourself to walk, jog or run as little as 5 km could make a huge difference.

So, how does it work?

  • Register for the event here
  • Walk, jog or run a distance of your choosing on the weekend of October 16 and October 17
  • Track the distance you complete and raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland

It really is that simple to get involved, and there’s no better reason to get active over the coming weeks.

Patricia Creery, a mother of two from Laois, is one of many Irish women taking part in this year’s Great Pink Run. In 2013, at just 39 years old, Patricia was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma after finding a lump on her breast.

Years later, Patricia is healthy and happy, teaching healthcare at Portlaoise College and spending time with her family. It’s thanks to essential education and awareness programmes run by Breast Cancer Ireland that Patricia can share her story, reassuring other Irish women with similar diagnoses.

The money you raise will help Breast Cancer Ireland continue their pioneering research and awareness programmes nationally, which make a huge difference when it comes to sharing stories like Patricia’s and spreading awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer, like the ones shown below.
