Research says this is when most couples first say ‘I love you’

It's a massive step.

'I love you'

Before we begin, it’s important to acknowledge that every relationship has its own specific timeline and this is just one of many surveys on the subject of love.

Saying ‘I love you’ for the first time is a pretty big step and inspired by Love Island where people are throwing the word around after a couple of days, You Gov asked 3,947 people about their feelings on those three words.

The results were as follows:

  • Twenty-two percent said I love you after three months (top answer)
  • Fourteen per cent uttered the all-important phrase after six months
  • Thirteen per cent thought one month was the appropriate timeline for the big L word

The inspiration for the survey came from Garcel, probably the most popular couple on Love Island.

Marcel, of Blazin’ Squad and everyone’s favourite guy in the villa, told the object of his affections that he loved her after a couple of weeks and although Gabby is mad about him too, she did suggest that maybe he just liked her and didn’t love her yet.

However, according to reports, she might have got to that stage herself in scenes from last night’s episode…
