RTÉ's flagship morning show Morning Edition will be cancelled at the end of the current series.
The show, fronted by journalist Keelin Shanley, was launched in January 2013 and it had been hoped that it would take on TV3's Ireland AM for the morning audience.
However, it is believed that the programme has struggled in the ratings and the national broadcaster confirmed today that it will not be renewed at the end of the current run.
Morning Edition, which focused heavily on current affairs coverage, was well received on its initial launch but speculation had grown that the 9am start time could have hampered its progress.
In a statement today, RTÉ said that "financial pressures" were to blame for the decision.
