Shoppers have a big sleepover in Ikea after being snowed in

Livin’ the dream.

Everyone knows a day out at Ikea is great craic but can you imagine getting to have a slumber party there?

This week, a few lucky customers and staff spent a night snoozing in comfy showroom beds at a Denmark store, after a snowstorm trapped them inside.

After up to 12 inches of snow fell on Wednesday night, everyone inside became trapped in the Aalborg store. Deciding not to attempt trekking home in the treacherous weather, they decided to have a sleepover.

The manager, Peter Elmose told the Ekstra Bladet newspaper that they decided to make a night of it by eating Ikea’s finest food and watching TV.

People were allowed to sleep in “the exact bed they always have wanted to try”.

“We slept in the furniture exhibitions and our showroom on the first floor, where we have beds, mattresses and sofa beds,” he said. “It went super well. It was a good night.”

Some staff members from a toy shop next door also joined in on the fun and spent the night in the store.

Michelle Barrett, one of the toy shop staff, said “It’s much better than sleeping in one’s car.

“It has been nice and warm and we are just happy that they would let us in.

“We just laughed at the situation, because we will probably not experience it again.”

The store shared a slide of images the following day, showing the aftermath of their sleepover, and there was a few un-made beds and a bit of a mess to be seen.

“This is what it looks like when you have spent the night in Ikea Aalborg during a snowstorm!” they wrote. “Thanks to our wonderful customers and staff for the snow match! Should it be another time?”
