Congratulations! National treasure Old Moore’s Almanac, is celebrating 250 years in publishing.
The 2014 edition of the much-loved annual calendar is already on shelves, jam-packed with some amazing, unusual and rather interesting predictions.
So what can we expect in 2014, will we see riots, who'll be getting hitched? Here are some of the Almanac’s amazing predictions:
- Good tracts of sun in summer, a good year to have a “staycation” at home in Ireland.
- There will be a lot of news about the resurrection of extinct species. The woolly mammoth and sabre-tooth tiger will be named, as well as types of resurrected food, which will be dubbed “ghostfood”.
- Miley Cyrus will go for a softer, more feminine look, and she will crash mid-year. She will need some time to recuperate and her money is in danger of being invested badly.
- Separate body parts will be cloned for organ transplants; not an entire body.
- A drama for Air Force One, but Obama is not on board.
- Hilary will make preparations to run for president.
- Obama will write a book
- Saoirse Ronan will get engaged.
- More islands will appear from earthquakes.
- A baby for Chelsea Clinton.
- Simon Cowell will become deeply spiritual… what?
- Virtual reality will make a comeback with games technology, and 3D entertainment without glasses will be mind-blowing.
- The FIFA World Cup in Brazil will see riots. FIFA referees will be in the news, but also the technology used in the game will impress us.
- The first lunar tourists will be chosen.
- An orbital hotel will start construction.
- President Michael D. Higgins may be forced to retire.
- A pill to prevent sunburn comes to market, based on biomimicry of coral.
- A second pregnancy for Brian O’Driscoll and Amy Huberman.
- There will be a cosmetic surgery boom all over the world.
- Teleportation of tiny organisms is a success.
- The Vatican will have a much better year than the previous years, especially because “lost” pages of the Bible are found.
According to Old Moore, there will be snow for Christmas, but it will be a "smattering rather than a full dumpage". Still though - snow!
To date, circulation of the almanac stands at around 45,000, which is one of the highest circulations of an indigenous magazine in Ireland.
We're looking forward to seeing which of these predictions come true!
