Sergeant Guy Juneau from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Security Service’s branch told the Los Angeles Times that one person was caught on CCTV climbing Mount Lee before draping four bits of material over the two "o" letters. Interestingly, it's not the first time the sign has been altered to read Hollyweed having first been changed in 1976, also on New Year's Day.
