Living at home as an adult is no longer the big taboo that it was during the Celtic Tiger.

Soaring rents, extortionate house prices and zero hour contracts? Sure it’s no wonder we would rather stay under mammy and daddy’s roof for a little while longer.

Well, the good news is if you’re still living at home you could be in a position to move out by the end of the summer, with the help of a brand new TV show.

RTÉ are putting a call out for participants for its new four-part TV series ‘This Crowded House’ (working title) on RTÉ2. They will be exploring what life is like for people living at home with their parents, while giving them the best financial advice and a tailored plan to get them on the right track to move out and live independently.

They’re particularly looking for people who have never moved out of the family home and members of the “Boomerang Generation” – adults in their 20s, 30s or 40s who are living back in the family home. They would also love to hear from people trying to save up for their first home.

They’ve said:

“In your 20s or 30s (or even 40s) and living with your parents?
Or are you a PARENT ready for your adult offspring to finally fly the nest?
Do you want to move out but need a hand in the RIGHT direction?
Would EXPERT advice & financial planning be the answer?”

Anyone who takes part in the show will be given expert advice, a financial plan and an opportunity to explore all of their options before deciding on whether to rent, buy or share.

They’re inviting both parents and their grown-up children to apply. So if you want to give your son or daughter a subtle nudge this might just be the way to do it. If you know someone who should apply or you would like to take part yourself you can apply here or call 01 7088162.

We can’t wait to see it.
