Ladies and Gentlemen, the Six One News.
An Irish institution, RTÉ's Six One News programme began broadcasting to the nation on this day 25 years ago (3rd October 1988). The hour long programme was originally presented by Sean Duignan and Eileen Dunne while sports news was anchored by the late Colm Murray and Vere Wynne Jones. Other main presenters over the 25 years include Anne Doyle, Eamonn Lawlor and Una O'Hagan.
Remember when you used to sit in front of it with mam and dad and pray they’d have had enough news by half past, so you could switch over to Home and Away? Those were the days.
To celebrate the landmark birthday, RTÉ have released some fantastic images from the archives.
