Holidaying at home this summer? This could be right up your street.

Irish Landmark Trust have announced that five beautiful lighthouse properties in Ireland will now be available for the public to enjoy as short-term holiday accommodation.

The announcement marks the enhancement of an existing partnership between Irish Landmark and The Commissioners of Irish Lights, which had already seen six lighthouse properties given a sustainable new use and purpose.

The lighthouse properties now available as short-term accommodation include two houses each at St John’s Point in Down and St John’s Point in Donegal and a third property at Irish Landmark’s existing site at Blackhead in Antrim.

The lighthouse properties will now form part of a collection of historic holiday homes throughout the country, all of which can be viewed on irishlandmark.com.

Speaking at the launch on Thursday, Mary O Brien, CEO of Irish Landmark said: “We are delighted to add these wonderful properties to our collection of historic holiday homes throughout the country.

“Irish Landmark is proud to celebrate our longstanding partnership with The Commissioners of Irish Lights and delighted that the public can now enjoy more of these wonderful properties in such stunning locations. Staying at our Lighthouse properties allows guests to live the life of Lightkeeper during their short stay in a truly memorable place.”

Yvonne Shields, CEO of Irish Lights added: “This is a really important project for Irish Lights for many reasons – we have a long and rich history and connection to the coast and its communities in our role in providing navigation services for nearly 250 years.

“As the keepers and custodians of some of the most spectacular maritime heritage properties on the Island of Ireland we have established a partnership Great Lighthouses of Ireland, featuring 12 lighthouses, each offering unique experiences that complement the richness and beauty of our Island’s coastline, by welcoming all visitors to explore, discover and meet the people who are passionate about these unique places “

The Great Lighthouses of Ireland project has been funded by the European Union’s INTERREG IVA cross border programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes body (SEPUB).
