Shane Lambert, who previously worked as a hotel manager, explained the process in conversation with The Sun:
"A lot of hotels punish people for booking through third-party sites. "They don’t like paying the commission and would rather you booked with the hotel directly. "The consequence is that you get the worst room within the room category you book a lot of the time".Interestingly, and we've heard this said before, sometimes picking up the phone and having a chat with the hotel's reception can result in an upgrade, add-on or discount.
