How do you book a hotel stay?

Chances are you try a third-party travel website in order to find the best bargain or a last-minute deal, but it turns out this isn't always the best route. No, it seems that booking directly with the hotel is the way you should be booking. Apparently, hotels reserve the really good rooms for people who book with them directly because they don't have to pay out commission this way, which they do when reservations are made through booking websites. Shane Lambert, who previously worked as a hotel manager, explained the process in conversation with The Sun:

"A lot of hotels punish people for booking through third-party sites. "They don’t like paying the commission and would rather you booked with the hotel directly. "The consequence is that you get the worst room within the room category you book a lot of the time".

Interestingly, and we've heard this said before, sometimes picking up the phone and having a chat with the hotel's reception can result in an upgrade, add-on or discount.
