We didn’t expect this.

When moving to another country for a few months, or even years, you tend to hope for the best in every part of your life.

You’ll nab a nice place to live, find a suitable job, and hopefully make a lot of long-time friends.

However, if you travel to Sweden, the latter may not be likely.

According to a new survey, Sweden has ranked last place for making friends, with expats saying they barely got to know any locals while living over there.

And out of 65 countries, it came in 45th for friendliness, which can be odd since we’re used to seeing Sweden rank in top place for many things such as childcare, work-life balance and general quality of life.

The research asked 12,500 expats on their experience of living abroad, and the consensus was that the country is mighty unsociable.

However, if you fancy moving over to Costa Rica, it ranked number one for friendliness.

64 percent said that the friends they made in the country, will remain friends forever, so if that doesn’t entice you, we don’t know what will.
