Most of us would be inclined to have a cheeky look at our phones before we go to bed but we can assure you, we will making sure that our phones are nowhere near our beds after this incident.
Ariel Tolfree, a 13-year-old girl from Texas, was awoken by the smell of smoke in the middle of the night only to discover that her Samsung phone was on fire.
“I didn’t think much of it, so I went back to sleep, and then I woke up again and it was more prominent,” she told KDFW.
It turned out her Samsung phone had slipped under her pillow and overheated, causing the handset to burst into flames.
“The whole phone melted,” said her dad, Thomas. “The plastic, the glass. You can’t even really tell that it was a phone.”
Fox News and the family got in touch with Samsung about the incident but the phone company claimed that in their manual there is a warning that if the phone is covered by bedding, it is in danger of going on fire.
They also claimed that they take any instance of battery fire seriously and have asked the family to forward on the phone so they can investigate properly.
However, they did agree to replace the bedding, mattress and pillow.
