If you opt for the real version over the artificial kind, then right about now you’re probably making plans to get rid of this year’s Christmas tree.
In Cambridgeshire, locals have perhaps the best option when it comes to recycling, after the local zoo appealed for donations.
The trees are being reused by Linton Zoological Gardens as toys for some very big cats, as the resident lions have gone crazy for the trees.
Manager Dawny Greenwood said the scented trees are "almost like catnip" for the impressive creatures, telling the BBC: "They just love the trees, it gives them hours of fun."
Any trees that are past their best will be used for the zoo’s bio-burner, to provide additional heating for the zoo at a cold and expensive time of year.
