The biggest tea-drinking province in Ireland has been named

Can you guess which it is?

Rebecca Keane

We Irish people do love a cup of tea.

Funerals, weddings, christenings, the Leaving Cert results… there’s no occasion on the Irish calendar that isn’t worthy of a cuppa.

We’re a generous bunch who are always offering solace and hospitality to others, in the form of a hot cup of Barry’s or Lyon’s.

My parents must drink about 14 cups a day… each, which is something I can never EVER fathom.

According to our brothers at JOE.iethe area of Ireland that drinks the most tea has been revealed.

It seems the people of the West seriously have the thirst as a survey conducted by Tesco found that more than eight in every ten people in Connacht is a tea drinker (82%).

That 82% is closely followed by 78% in Ulster, 73% in Munster and 73% in Leinster counties (outside of Dublin). They’re all still high enough numbers people!

The survey also found that a surprising 35% of people living in Dublin confessed to not drinking tea at all.

Also, 71% of Irish people are tea-drinkers, but it was found that the residents of Connacht drink the most tea per population head, with almost one-third of Connacht people drinking up five cups of tea or more.

FIVE? You’d have to live on the toilet.

If Mrs. Doyle was still on Father Ted, she’d be only delighted to hear the news.
