The coolest exhibition in Ireland is back this weekend

Cassie Delaney

If you’ve sauntered through Dublin recently you might have noticed a Perspex box soliciting secrets and hidden desires.

The box is the brain child of Rebecca Bermingham and it allows city dwellers to anonymously submit their thoughts.

Those thoughts are brought to life by a growing cohort of Irish talent and sold to similarly, inject funds and life back into some of the city’s most worthwhile services.

With Peachy, the world of art merges with that of social change. Last year people shared their Hope, Fears and Dreams and the art that resulted was sold to benefit Aware. This year, as the focus shifts solely to Fear, the funds shift to The Ana Liffey Drug Project. The premise of the exhibition is about fear in our society and prevalence of it in the last year. The organisers and artists collaborate to explore the multitude of variants it poses in our society financially, socially and mentally.

This years exhibition, taking place from August 19-21, promises to be a weekend full of art, culture, and music, where everyone is welcome. Some of Ireland’s greatest talents have been creating works and we can expect to see pieces from Maser, Gearoid O’Dea, Sketchy Inc, Neil Dunne, Claudine O’Sullivan and Jacob Stack.

Further exploring social change, Peachy X Repeal will take place on the Saturday afternoon.

Peachy founder Rebecca Bermingham explains:

“The suggestion came from myself to pair with Anna and The Repeal Project and we feel our two ideas correlate perfectly. I’m quite a staunch proponent that bodily autonomy is a basic and intrinsic right and that the most measured decision maker for a women’s body, is the women in question. I do understand that isn’t everyone’s though. We had a conversation as a team and were all of the consensus that this was the right decision for Peachy and it would serve to benefit and educate. It also propelled us as a team to have a dialogue about repealing the 8th amendment.”
