We all know that running a family home adds up. Every single day, more and more expenses sneak in and drain away at our budget.
Whether it’s forking out for new school books, spending money on daily essentials or unexpected bills, sometimes it can be hard to save anything. We understand. But what if there was a way that you could still enjoy family life and save those all-important pennies?
For the next few weeks we’ll be giving some simple tips on how you can get the best bang for your buck when it comes to running a family home.

Once a month have a family night in:
![]()
Why not spend some quality time together this weekend?
How much money do you spend on entertainment for yourself, your partner and your children every single week?
Going to the cinema, having lunch out or stopping into the pub for a few drunks on the weekend are all fun parts of life. They’re the little bits of entertainment that we need in order to keep us calm, happy and fulfilled. They’re totally fine, although they can add up.
Now, we’re not saying that you have to ditch the girls on a Saturday if they want to go for lunch or that you have to tell the kids ‘no’ when they ask for some money to go to the cinema, but how about introducing a family night in once a month?
Once a month, spend a Saturday night in together. We know that the traditional family night in may seem a bit dated and boring, but a night in with your nearest and dearest can be immense craic if you approach it in a creative manner.
Why not dust off all those board games that you have hidden away in the attic and challenge your children to a game of Monopoly? Or why not sit down and watch that family-friendly movie that you’ve all been dying to see for ages?
Having a night in together will not only help your finances slightly, it will also encourage you to bond and connect more as a family unit. After all, money may be important but it’s family that matters most, right?
Reinvent the ‘family night in’ tradition and see how much fun you can have with your other half and your children. Who knows? You might have so much fun that you’ll decide to turn it into a twice-a-month thing!
