The stunning five-star spa experience I won’t forget anytime soon

Cathy Donohue

five-star

Monart.

You might have heard the name mentioned before for this five-star spot, located just outside Enniscorthy in Wexford, has quite the reputation.

It’s previously been named as one of the top three spa resorts in the world by Condé Nast Traveller and suffice to say, there’s no messing here.

The spa is world-class and it deserves the first mention for this is no ordinary spa experience.

Here you have the chance to taste out the health benefits of the InfraRed cabin. Think state of the art technology that soothes muscles, improves flexibility, removes toxins and decreases inflammation. Pretty impressive for one sitting.

The hydrotherapy pool also deserves a mention for light streams through the floor-length windows on a sunny day, creating the most serene atmosphere I’ve ever experienced in a spa.

Thirdly, the dark relaxation room. The silence is golden, it smells beautiful and lying on one of the loungers was the perfect way to chill after a 30-minute massage. My back hates me at the best of times so I was determined to keep the chill going for as long as I possibly could.

The light relaxation room is also worth some of your precious time with the cubby holes pictured above, encouraging you to curl up and kick back, maybe even opting for a sneaky snooze. Book a mid-week break and you’ll be even happier to have a midday nap thinking of your colleagues working hard while you’re off living the dream.

If you’re a big fan of spa breaks, this ticks all the boxes. Bonus points for the fact that you’re encouraged to walk around in your robe while you’re staying.

I also have to mention the fact that Monart lives up to its five-star name. From the moment you arrive, you’re encouraged to relax. Your car is parked, luggage brought to your room and there’s only wifi in one location, so you’re encouraged to turn your phone off and completely chill.

The staff can’t do enough to make you feel at ease and if it’s royal treatment you’re after on your next mini-break, this is the place for you.

Adrian, the night-porter on duty, even thought to bring us a chilled bottle of water as we were finishing our after-dinner drink and that was just one example of the luxury service that this hotel is renowned for.

As this is five-star, you expect every dining experience to be top-notch and Monart did not disappoint.

I love seafood and I adore lasagne so marrying the two together in the starter of the dreams set the tone for the evening. A special mention too for the white chocolate cheesecake because as a dessert fanatic, I feel fellow sweet-toothed fans need to know all about it. I also got the last slice on the night in question and it was just delicious.

Monart is one of those rare getaways that allows you to truly switch off so if you’re looking for a relaxing staycation, I would highly recommend.

At the moment, there are a couple of packages running with and the two-night ‘Summer Yoga Daze’ break sounds rather gorgeous.

This includes two nights in a deluxe Monart room, breakfast each morning, a Detox Algae Body, an Organic Luscious Salt Glow plus a choice of either a manicure or pedicure, yoga/exercise classes and dinner on one evening at the award-winning in-house restaurant. It’s priced from €429 per person sharing midweek and €469 per person sharing at weekends.
