The Wait Is Over! Tayto Crisps Heading Down Under

Deal struck to bring Irish favourites to Australia.

Australia has a lot of things going for it but no amount of sunshine and Home and Away-worthy hunks can make up for the fact that some elements of the staple Irish diet are hard to come by Down Under.

For every smug Bondi Beach selfie on Facebook, there are hundreds of posts from your brother/best friend/neighbour about how much they are missing the likes of Tayto crisps and a good old brew. But it seems that this yearning will soon be a thing of the past, with confirmation this morning that a deal has been struck between Taste Ireland and Australian retailer Coles to stock a selection of Irish products across its 600 stores.

According to the Irish Times, Coles supermarkets will have a dedicated section selling such favourites as Tayto crisps, Barry’s Tea, Club Orange and other Irish brands.

This is the second such deal to be signed by Taste Ireland, as the company agreed a contract in 2011 to supply Woolworths. This company’s products will now be available in 1,000 stores and a retail turnover of more than €2 million is expected in the first year of the partnership.
