Thinking about getting organised for 2019? A bullet journal will absolutely change your life

Jade Hayden

Divine pieces of paper, these.

There are a few things in this world that can be accurately described as ‘life changing.’

Having a child is one of them. Starting a job you actually enjoy is another. So is meeting the love of your life, getting married, and discovering that jalapeños really are great on everything.

And, as is turns out, so is buying yourself a bullet journal.

Because a bullet journal isn’t just your average kind of journal. It’s a special journal… and it’ll change everything you thought you knew about organised living.

So, what exactly makes it different?

Well, a bullet journal has a lot of pages like a regular journal, but unlike a regular journal, it uses bullet points, signs, symbols, and abbreviations to organise all of your shit.

There are lots of different kinds of bullet journals out there, but most of them involve graphs, lists, columns, and calendars.

Basically, if you want to use a bullet journal, you’ll be keeping actual words and sentences to a minimum.

Very minimalist, indeed.

The main idea of the bullet journal is that it doesn’t take you a lot of time to write your to-do lists or your observations or your general bullshit in there.

… Therefore, making it easier for you to actually get shit done in the mean time.

The prime issue with most journals is that we tend to spend a lot of time making them pretty and documenting our entire lives in there.

With a bullet journal, you can still do all of those things… it’s just a lot faster.

You’ll be so organised it’s almost wrong.

Anyone can start a bullet journal too – you don’t necessary need to go out and purchase a specific kind of book.

Just grab a journal, decide what symbols you’re going to use for yourself, and away you go.

For example, you could jot down a quick list of general things on your mind and assign each of them a symbol indicating whether this item is a to-do item, an event item, or something you’ve already done but maybe need to reconsider.

Essentially, the bullet journal is a diary and a planner and a to-do list all rolled into one.

And everyone’s a bit obsessed with them so, you know, they must be good, right?
