This Frankly Ridiculous Doughnut Costs $100

There's currently a waiting list to order one of these bad boys

There has been a spate of incredibly extravagant food trends over the last number of years, from luxury cronuts to those insanely sugar-laden bespoke milkshakes that you can now pick up in Dublin.

Chefs and restaurants are constantly trying to out-do one another in the excess stakes and we think this New York restaurant may have stolen the crown for Most Ridiculously Decadent Food Item of 2016, and we’re only a few days into January.

Filipino eatery Manila Social Club has invented the Golden Cristal Ube Doughnut which contains real gold leaf, Cristal champagne and ube (a type of Filipino yam).

First We Feast interviewed the head chef Björn DelaCruz about his insane creation : ‘The reason that gold leaf and Cristal were added was because I love all different champagnes. I wanted to add something [to the menu] for the new year to celebrate how long we have been going.’

‘I didn’t know people would go and order a dozen [of these] at a time! But then again, it is New York, and there are people willing to put down a grand for a dozen doughnuts.’

We don’t know how willing we would be to drop $100 on something that would be eaten in about three minutes, but it does look very pretty.
