What's even more annoying than periods themselves, is how they are portrayed in advertisements for sanitary towels and tampons.
A lot of the same we see women wearing tight white jeans, frolicking in meadows, while an unnamed blue liquid is poured on to the pad to show how absorbent it is.
It's hardly a representation of the reality of what periods are - a lot of blood every four to six weeks leaking out of your body and making you really uncomfortable.
That's why this new Bodyform advertisement is just fantastic. The title is simply - Blood. It shows various strong athletic women killing it in their chosen physical activity, whether that's ballet, swordfighting, running or skateboarding.
It shows the woman running, falling getting injured and, yes, bleeding.
The tagline is 'No blood should hold us back'.
There should be more advertisements like this.
