We get it – online dating is hard.
You search through profiles, script your conversations and hope to find a spark.
But if you find your inbox is lacking a certain charm, you might want to consider trying this one golden rule.
If you’re a female looking for love online, you should be the person to make the first approach.
According to online dating site OKCupid, women who initiate conversations are 2.5 times more likely to get a response.
Analysing the breakdown of users’ behaviour, the dating site found that not only were women more likely to get a response – it was likely to be with someone who was more attractive.
(Although, we’re assuming the user will find them attractive if they’re messaging them in the first place…)
While it all sounds like a pretty simple way to fall into the throes of passion, the survey also found that women are still 3.5 times less likely than a male counterpart to make the first move.
So if you’ve tried every avenue, it might be time to pluck up some characters and work on your best opening line…
