This Weekend, You…Should Appreciate Something Irish

Well, it is St Patrick's weekend so we reckon it's only right that we all take some time out to appreciate the wonders of the Emerald Isle.  Don't worry, that doesn't mean that you have to buy into the stereotype of having a few beverages at a parade (although that's ok too) but, instead, just pick one of Ireland's wide range of great offerings and be really smug that it came from here. There are too many examples to list them all but here's a few to get you started! _____________________________ Music If we do one thing exceptionally well, it's music. From U2 to The Dubliners and Kodaline to The Cranberries, we have basically conquered the world with our dulcet tones, epic riffs and catchy choruses, while Canada's greatest export is...Justin Bieber. We rest our case. In our humble opinion, there is one man who encapsulates true Irish musical talent and that is the legend that is Luke Kelly. We've counted down some of his finest moments here. ) Inspirational Women We're spoiled for choice in Ireland when it comes to strong, inspirational women. In every area, from politics to social affairs, there has been an Irish woman who stood up to be counted and gave us all something to aspire to. One of our most recent girl crushes has been the amazing Philomena Lee. Here's why. Film As a nation, we love to tell a good story and Irish directors, writers, actors and actresses have been raising the bar continuously in the film industry. With icons like Daniel Day Lewis and Brenda Fricker, alongside new stars like Jack Reynor and Saoirse Ronan, we are definitely punching above our weight so use this excuse to catch up on a great Irish film. ) Sport Some of our greatest moments have come in the sporting arena and whether you're a fan of soccer, rugby, GAA or athletics, you've probably had a chance to celebrate at some point. We were all in floods of tears at this moment two years ago, so why not relive Katie's Olympic glory? )
