This is what the tiny hole on the back of your iPhone is for

Now you know.

Did you ever even notice this?

It’s probably not even registered with you that there’s a tiny hole on the back of your iPhone next to the camera – go on, have a look.

Turned your phone back around yet? Good, we’ll continue.

Can you guess what it’s for? Is it an extra camera? A torch? Nope. The teeny dot is in fact a microphone.

But before you start with the conspiracy theories, it’s not so the government can listen in on your calls or even record what the in-person calls going on around the phone (a very scary thought).

According to Cosmopolitan, it was originally added to the iPhone 5s to let you still chat away on FaceTime while turning around the screen to show the person you’re talking to something if you need to.

Plus, if you’re at Longitude the weekend the little microphone will make your friends loud antics much easier to record. Happy days.
