The top bucket list destination for Irish folk has been revealed

Jade Hayden

Sounds decent, yeah.

When’s the last time you were away?

Did you take a weekend trip to London recently? Maybe you popped over to Amsterdam for a day or two? Or perhaps you even hit up New York for a week because you’re made of money and really successful and stuff?

If so, fair play, and if not, don’t worry because none of the above are the top bucket list destination for Irish folk, so it’s all redundant really.

According to a national RED C survey conducted by Travel Counsellors, South Africa is the top wanna-go spot for people in Ireland.

30 percent of those surveyed said they would want to go on a South African safari, while 28 percent answered whale watching in Alaska at their top bucket list trip.

27 percent of people said they’d want to attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, while one third of Irish millennials picked snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef.

Interestingly, just 7 percent of those over 65 would choose the same option.

Travel Counsellors’ Cathy Burke says that the survey proves that age is very much a factor when it comes to picking your ideal holiday.

She said:

“It’s great to see the vast interest Irish people of all ages still have in travel and that their sense of adventure is still strong. Having a bucket list is like setting yourself a personal goal to live your life to the fullest. Everyone should have one.

“Travel is one of the best activities a person can do to expose themselves to new cultures, broaden the mind and experience some of the wonders of the world.”

So, going anywhere nice?
