We tried blogger poses… and it’s harder than you think

This was tough.

Niamh Maher

Bloggers are delightful, we all follow them, we all want to be them, but for the LIFE of us we can’t figure out how they always look so beautiful.

Recently Vogue Williams mentioned in an Instagram post that her favourite pose is when she’s pretending to look at something on the ground and smiling… she openly admitted that this is staged, so it got us thinking, could we be as gosh darn effortless?

My favourite pose is to pretend I’m looking at something on the ground, I literally cannot help myself #durrrr

Instagram posts from bloggers are always on point, the laugh always looks genuine, the coffee looks delicious and the ‘follow me’ drag even looks… well a little bizarre if we’re being honest.

Like we said, we love bloggers, so we’re not throwing shade… we simply want to achieve these impossibly perfect poses.

So with a haughty (and delusional) confidence, I grabbed my colleague Laura Holland and we headed out to the most Instagrammable place we could find.

The courtyard outside our office.

First up drawing direct inspiration from Vogue, we tried the ‘ Look And Laugh ‘… it took us a few tries, but I think we got there in the end.

We discovered fairly quickly that this was harder than anticipated, the poses are probably the most unnatural things you’ll ever do, but the end result is outstanding.

We were getting really into this.

Next up the ‘Drinking A Beverage While Laughing And Looking Into The Distance‘ . This was tough to get the sitting position right, but I told Laura a terrible joke and eventually, it panned out:

Moving swiftly on, we wanted to get the ‘Flat Lay Legs‘. you know the one… the blogger is sitting in bed or on a beach, her glorious belongings scattered around her.

Turns out, this was quite easy to achieve, you just need a tiny woman standing above you… behold:

We couldn’t do an Instagram pose trial without attempting ‘The Incredible Yoga Shot’, now Laura has openly admitted she’s no Yogi… this is a pretty solid effort, we eventually got some SERIOUS air.

Just to point out, we know the hat was a mistake for the Yoga pose:

And finally, we tried THE BIG ONE. The ultimate Instagram pose… the ‘Follow Me’. We couldn’t believe it, this worked the first time.

So, what have we learned? Well, blogger poses are tougher than we envisaged. You need dedication, time, and help from multiple people.

We’d like to tip our hats to all those bloggers out there and let them know to keep posting as it looks stunning and we’ll continue our efforts to recreate them.

And to my Instagram model extraordinaire Laura Holland … a huge thank you, I sincerely apologise for the terrible jokes, and in hindsight, we should maybe leave this up to the pros.
