Save money and do some good for the world around you by using simple measures to conserve energy in the home. If you’re not sure where to start – don’t worry! We’ll be bringing you one great energy-saving tip every day for the next month.
14. Carry out checks every six months
It sounds like a boring job but taking the time to check your water pipes every six months could end up saving you a small fortune.
During the cold weather, water pipes tend to suffer. The weather causes them to expand, contract and in some cases, crack. This can cause water leaks that you may not be aware of.
Leaky pipes mean that you’ll end up (unknowingly) using more water than you normally would, which will have a severely negative impact on your energy savings.
For the sake of ten minutes every few months, spend the time going around your home’s waterworks and checking for any leaking or damaged pipes. The sooner you notice the problem, the faster you can fix it – meaning you’ll end up keeping your hard-earned cash rather than having it leak away.
It’s also a good idea to check your water boiler while you’re checking your pipes. For maximum savings always make sure it’s functioning well and that it doesn’t need any maintenance.
