In the Paris Hilton documentary, This is Paris, Hilton opens up about the abuse she suffered at a series of reform schools in her teens. Considered a rebellious teen and “troublesome” by her parents, they paid to have her forcefully removed from her bedroom in the middle of the night and thus introduced her to the ‘troubled teen’ industry in America. The future reality tv star claims she was subjected to verbal, emotional, and physical abuse disguised as “tough love”.
In the last thirty minutes of the documentary, which has been viewed over 12 million times on YouTube, we are introduced to some of Paris’ former classmates. We wanted to hear more from them and what they’re doing to raise awareness of this industry that spreads across multiple states and is home to thousands of children each year.
Katherine McNamara was with Paris at Provo Canyon, she gave us an insight into her time at the school, what her subsequent years were like, and what the survivors are hoping to achieve with #BreakingCodeSilence.
