Weekend Roundup – 10 Things Her.ie Loved This Week

We loved many things this week. Here are ten of them.

Her

These are a few of our favourite things… for this week at least.

Simply the Best

This week Her.ie walked away with the 2014 Web Award for Best Daily Online Publication. To say we’re all thrilled would be an understatement, and our Editor Michelle‘s favourite thing this week is the Her.ie editorial team. She’s of the opinion that you’d have to go a long way to find a better bunch of women. We’re toasting the win with some lovely champagne. Cheers folks!

Three is the magic number…

If you’ve never heard of the vocal harmony group Trillogy then you may introduce yourself to the group now, as these three college friends are destined for incredible success. The trio featuring Glenn Murphy, Ronan Scolard and Óisín O’Callaghan, shot to fame following a sensational rendition of Rembrandts hit and Friends theme tune, ‘I’ll Be There For You’, which quickly went viral and secured them a performance on RTÉ’s Late Late Show. Friends of Her.ie, the lads held their first ever headlining show last night in the National Concert Hall and as expected, they were incredible. Stay tuned for a very special performance from the three for The Sunday Sessions later in the year. Until then, we’ll leave you with that famous cover.

Sweet Treats

*Technically*, these sweets are Christmas gifts from amazing chocolatiers Lily O’Briens.

We’ve eaten them all already. #SorryNotSorry

Christmas gifts from our friends at Lily O’Brien’s are available from December, ranging from a €3.99 stocking filler all the way up to an amazing Advent House for €25. We’ll accept all items from the range happily.

The Test

The lovely Brian O’Driscoll releases his autobiography this week. As well as being a thrilling account of his days heading up the Irish rugby squad and the highs and lows that went with those days, we loved getting a little look behind the scenes at Brian’s courtship with his stunning and accomplished wife Amy. We have a lot of time for HuberBod, so when Brian spoke during the promo drive this week about his romance with the actress/author/designer, we swooned. We’re taking this home this weekend to read more.

Home is Where the Heart Is

Cathy’s very excited about heading home to Galway this weekend as it’s a double birthday celebration. Her Dad and sister have birthdays a week apart so there will be a LOT of cake (did we mention she’s a little obsessed). She also can’t wait to see Bailey, the family pet (or fourth child depending on what way you look at it). See below for token puppy photo.

What a Ride…

This week, Mary was feeling really annoyed when her car broke down…again! However, it was lovely man from the garage to the rescue as he gave her a one-year-old Audi A4 to drive for the days while her car was getting fixed. Mary is loving life cruising in her new wheels.. we’re not really sure how she’s going to give it back though, it seems to be a major love affair.

Christmas is Coming…

So we haven’t made it to Halloween yet, but we might just have been bitten by the Christmas countdown bug. Liz popped along to the Lidl Christmas event with Grace and Cathy this week, where she sampled wine, delicious cheese and meats, took a stop off on the chocolate pick’n’mix stall and even got to have a chat with Santa. Not only did he confirm all of us Her.ie ladies are on the right list, but he’s a big fan.

Topped off with some great singers in the gorgeous Smock Alley, it was the perfect way to start the festivities this year…

Hello Autumn

Thanks to these few bits and pieces from Essence’s Hello Autumn collection, Rebecca is ready for the colder seasons. With subtle shades of browns, creams and pinks, this is right up her makeup street.

Love to Laugh

We all love a good laugh so Marie’s favourite thing this week is the Vodafone Comedy Carnival, which has been running in Galway since October 16th. There’s still a few days of hilarity left in the stunning Speigeltent and you can see the full line-up here.

The Staves

This week we were back in The Workman’s Club, Dublin for The Sunday Sessions for a beautiful acoustic performance from three very talented sisters. The Staves consists of three sisters Emily, Jessica, and Camilla Staveley-Taylor who have garnered interest from music fans all over the globe since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Dead & Born & Grown’ back in 2012. The trio release their brand new EP Blood Is Bled today and recorded two tracks. Grace caught up with youngest of the group Camilla about new material, “the sister thing”, the connection with Irish crowds and her discomfort with the term ‘recording artist’ – read more here. http://www.her.ie/entertainment/a-name-to-remember-the-staves-prove-that-three-really-is-the-magic-number/
