Weekend Roundup – 10 Things Her.ie Loved This Week

We loved many things this week. Here are ten of them.

Rebecca McKnight

These are a few of our favourite things… for this week at least.

The Roads Less Travelled

We met with the lovely folk from Roads Publishing earlier this week. Their work makes our bookworm hearts skip a beat; from beautiful editions of classic novels to coffee table books you’ll be dying to show off. We’re really excited about the future of this homegrown company, but right now we’re too busy fawning over our copy of the frankly stunning Paparazzo to concentrate on anything else.

Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend

This week Rebecca and Michelle headed over to the stunning Appleby Jewellers, just off of Dublin’s Grafton Street, for a dazzling night of diamond fun. Our lucky girls tried on more carats than we can count and walked away with some beautiful surprises too. The building is deceptively large, with case upon case of divine gems (happily for every budget). We’re already penning the Santa lists, and we’ll certainly be back soon!

Starry, Starry Nights

This week Liz went along to see Interstellar. It’s the film everyone has been raving about but Liz had her doubts. Usually sci-fi and nearly three hours of film aren’t the winning combinations for a night in front of the big screen, but this was the game-changer. She was willing to give it the benefit of doubt thanks to her favourite director Christopher Nolan taking charge.

From a clever plot, to stunning performances from Jessica Chastain and Matthew McConaughey, this really is a must see. She’ll be surprised if there isn’t an Oscar nomination for this one…

Absolut Beaut

This week the cocktails are on us. Back in the 80s, legendary artist Andy Warhol was inspired by Absolut vodka, painting over 50 works of art featuring the bottle. Thirty years later, Absolut are paying tribute to him with this limited edition bottle. Developed together with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Andy Warhol Edition is black with blue, pink and yellow details – replicating Andy Warhol’s original Absolut Warhol painting.

Weird Science

Mary has so many favourite things this week she doesn’t know where to start! She eventually made up her mind though that the delivery of a funky experiment by the crew over at Science Week 2014 was her favourite. Mary is fascinated with how the bunch of flowers and the colour dye and can’t wait to try out some of the other cool things that are going on for Science Week (which runs until November 16th).

Ice, Ice Baby

This week the cool crew from Iceland dropped in to give us some tasty treats to sample. A massive variety of desserts were on offer, from yummy ice cream to tasty eclairs and they will certainly help make our Christmas easier this year!

Feasting with the Italian Foodie

If there’s one thing that Marie loves, it’s carbs so she was delighted to see a delivery come in from the Italian Foodie this week. As well as some lovely pastas and sauces, there were enough ingredients to make your own pizza… and this is how it turned out. Bellissimo!

G-G-G-Galway

Last weekend Rebecca headed off to Galway for the first time ever (we know, we can’t believe she had never been before either). She stayed in the wonderful Hotel Meyrick, where she had a very relaxing hot stone massage, and enjoyed lots of treats including a slice of carrot cake at traditional Irish tea room Cupán Tae. We reckon she’ll be heading west again before the year is out.

Visit Glasgow

Cathy went to the MTV EMAs on Sunday night and she hasn’t stopped talking about it since. Glasgow’s SSE Hydro is one impressive venue and she was pretty much starstruck as Ed Sheeran, U2 and Nicki Minaj took to the stage.

Not only that, she also got to spend a few days in Glasgow… live music, fantastic food and great shopping. This was her new favourite place until she visited Loch Lomond and got to fly in a sea plane. WOW, just wow.

Whiplash

Rebecca was very excited to hear that the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival is teaming up with Sony Pictures to screen Whiplash, starring JK Simmons and Miles Teller ahead of its release in January. The event is taking place at 7.00pm on Tuesday (November 18th) at Movies at Dundrum. The film, about an ambitious young drummer, is expected to be one of the most exhilarating movies of the year which means you’ll want to get tickets soon!
