It looks like Gary Barlow has been handed the short straw in this year’s X Factor as he is set to mentor the groups’ category.
It doesn’t look like they are up to much this season, as a group has yet to be featured getting through the audition stage of the show.
However Gary said viewers can expect great things from the category, but we suspect he has to say that given that he is their mentor.
According to The Daily Mail, Gary said the groups will provide stiff competition to the solo contestants this year.

"I don't know if we'll have to put our own groups together this year. The standards of the ones I've seen so far have been surprisingly high.
"I'm very impressed and wouldn't mind mentoring the groups this year,” he said.
Gary’s category will battle it out against fellow judges Tulisa Contostavlos, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh as their acts compete for the top spot.
Tulisa will mentor the girls category while Nicole will be in control of the boys this year.

One Direction have experienced success since they competed in X Factor in 2010
As per usual, Louis has been landed with the oldies and will narrow down his contestants with the help of his friend Sharon Osbourne in the judge’s house scenes of the show.
Following the success of One Direction and Little Mix, do you think Gary’s category has a chance this year?
