Your sleeping habits say a lot about your relationship

Let stress = more sleep

Megan Roantree

A good night sleep reveals good things about your relationship.

Getting a proper sleep is crucial in many ways, it sharpens your mind, reduces stress and generally helps you function better overall.

But achieving a good night sleep is a sign of a healthy relationship according to a new study.

Although a partner snoring and fidgeting in their sleep can keep you up, this is actually a bad sign, even though it may be incredibly annoying.

The study published Social Psychological and Personality Science that sleep deprivation due to stress and worry could point to problems in your relationship.

Being relaxed and at ease with your partner should result in a better night’s sleep.

According to Cosmopolitan, Dr. Emre Selçuk and his team surveyed a sample of 698 married or cohabiting adults between the ages of 35 and 86. Participants were given a questionnaire which asked about their other half’s responsiveness to issues like depression, anxiety and sleep problems.

219 people also wore Mini Mitter Actiwatches, during the night for a week, which monitored their sleep.

“Our findings show that individuals with responsive partners experience lower anxiety and arousal, which in turn improves their sleep quality,” Dr. Selçuk said.

The study found that supportive significant others helped participants to relax.

“Having responsive partners who would be available to protect and comfort us should things go wrong is the most effective way for us humans to reduce anxiety, tension, and arousal,” Dr. Selçuk continues.

So if you’re having trouble sleeping, and it’s because you don’t feel relaxed, it may not be the best sign of a healthy relationship.

On the plus side if you fall asleep in the middle of a conversation with your partner at bedtime or you have a habit of sleeping in, you can just blame in on the fact that you have such an amazing relationship.
