Popular South Korean girl band Oh My Girl were refused entry into LA over the weekend after being mistaken for “working women”.

A statement released by WM Entertainment reveals that border security became suspicious when they noticed the girls were carrying a large number of costumes and props.

Authorities believed the girls were ‘working women’. As reported by Dazed, the statement by WM Entertainment stated:

“As young women, they were mistaken as ‘working women’, which has recently been a big issue in the U.S,” they explained, before adding that the group “did not need a performance visa”.

According to The LA Times, authorities are clamping down on “Doumi girls”. Reportedly they are girls who are paid to hang out in private rooms around Koreatown’s spots in LA. Authorities are growing suspicious of the amount of Korean women entering the state to operate as sex workers.

The US Customs and Border Protection were unable to confirm the band’s claims, saying: “Privacy Act prevents CBP from disclosing arrival/departure records of international travellers.”

Oh My Girl (or OMG) brought their debut single Cupid out in April with a second mini-album and title track Closer released in October.

The band members are all aged between 16 and 21.
