Born in Osaka on March 5 1898, Misao Okawa was recognised as the world’s oldest person by Guinness World Records in 2013.
Marrying her husband Yukio in 1919, the couple had two daughters and a son.
She is survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren following her husband’s death in 1931.
Japan’s now oldest person is believed to be 115-years old, but will remain anonymous at their family’s request.
