An Irish woman who is currently on her honeymoon has suffered severe burns during the fires in Greece.

As of last night her husband was still missing.

Zoe Holohan and Brian O’Callaghan-Westropp were married in Ireland last week, and jetted off to Greece to celebrate.

The newlyweds had been staying close to the town of Mati, one of the worst hit places.

Brian and Zoe were being driven away from the fires when they became separated.

Zoe suffered burn injuries and is being treated in hospital, but Brian has not been heard from as of yet.

The severe fires which have broken out in Greece have claimed 76 lives, including young children.

Ten tourists drowned when a boat that was attempting to to rescue them capsized from the gale-driven forest fires.

Greek officials have asked for US drones “to observe and detect any suspicious activity” as it emerged that 15 fires had started at the same time in three different areas near Athens.

The theory is that these fires may have actually been started by criminals intending to ransack homes once they were abandoned by fleeing residents.

Driven by winds of up to 65mph 40C temperatures, the worst Greek forest fires in ten years have been described as a “national tragedy” and a ‘biblical disaster with human losses’.

The youngest victim was a six-month-old baby who died of smoke inhalation.

We’re all hoping and praying that Zoe and Brian make it home to Ireland safe.
