An Post is planning to expand the services on offer at more than 1,000 branches nationwide from the early stages of 2016.

According to The Irish Independent, they plan to introduce new current accounts to make banking easier for their thousands of customers around the country.

The move will see An Post challenging the offerings of other banks in the country as they will reportedly give access to the new account over the internet, by phone and an app.

“The Post Office is built around the needs of the community. A Post Office based banking service will support financial inclusion,” said Irish Postmasters’ Union Gerneral Secretary Ned O’Hara.

They plan to offer debit cards along with full access to ATMs, with standing orders and direct debit options also said to be available to customers.

There will reportedly be budgeting facilities for customers in order to help them spread out bill payments throughout the course of the year.
